It Happened One Night

I was inspired to choose this film this week because at this moment the number 1 film in America shares the opening title (get it? “It.”)  It (sorry) just so happens to be the complete opposite of the current, scary, blockbuster.  Produced in 1934, It Happened One Night is amongst the first great romantic comedies, starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.  Colbert is an entitled but rebellious heiress who escapes to New York and ends up meeting by chance Gable, a down on his luck reporter in desperate need of a great scoop to save his career.   As The Film Professor would say, “have patience, bring some energy to the movie, and watch the pieces fall together.”
